The derbid tribe Cenchreini (Derbinae) consists of about 25 genera and 195 species distributed widely but primarily in tropical regions. Here, the New World taxa, consisting of 12 genera (excluding Phaciocephalus) and 68 species, are reviewed in the context of ongoing survey work for palm associated planthoppers. Recent advances have improved genus diagnostics, but notable gaps, ambiguities, and a myriad of new taxa remain, also the relationship between the Old and New World fauna remains unexplored phylogenetically. Also, the association of many derbids with palms has been repeatedly observed, but is biologically underinvestigated.
