Insects are a whimsical and effective subject for public science engagement. Technological improvements in graphic design tools, creative applications, and accessibility are becoming more available for these purposes. However, knowing which tools to use, and in what order, can be a daunting task. I will use a visual art project (a pollinator mural at a public library with an accompanying website) to show how I went from a research topic to a final outreach product, what aesthetic and accessibility accommodations I took into consideration, and how I incorporated iNaturalist and other free-to-use software. While from an artistic perspective, this workflow is designed to be useful for developing any outreach project regardless of artistic background.
