Development of codling moth sex pheromone mating disruption evolved over 30 years. While initial forays quickly revealed successful management of CM mating disruption, improvements to this technique and a more detailed understanding of moth behavior were teased out incrementally with each successive year. New tools and techniques were developed to define and elucidate differential mechanisms of mating disruption and measure the efficacy of various pheromone delivery systems. These methods provide a unique template which can assist in developing pheromone mating disruption for other organisms more quickly.
