Cars, computers, weaponry, and intelligence have all progressed nicely into the 21st century. It would be hard to imagine operating day-to-day with technology and practices better suited for an era of policing that has past us by. Unfortunately, this is how many of our field training programs still operate. Talented police officers are tasked with the noble duty to train but are often not properly equipped. This doesnât have to be the case. Training programs can easily begin to incorporate modern teaching and adult learning methodologies, as well as create a sustainable and effective program built to connect with, communicate to, and develop the next generation of police officers. Science and evidence-based research provides a path for us all to advance our field training programs forward.
