Dr. Martin is University Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University. He received his PhD in human development and family studies from the Pennsylvania State University and a Dr. phil. in psychology from the University of Bonn, Germany. His research interests include gerontology, longevity, personality, stress, coping, and well-being. Dr. Martin has been principle investigator or co-investigator of the Georgia Centenarian Study, the Iowa Centenarian Study, and the Heidelberg Centenarian Study. He is one of the co-founders of the International Centenarian Consortium. Dr. Martin has been a Nehru Chair Professor at the Maharaja Savajirao University of Baroda and a visiting professor at the University of Osaka, Japan
