Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Student Doctor Shelby Hall, MPH began her study of the human body by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Upon graduation, she worked as a medical assistant for a Sports Medicine physician in Nashville, Tennessee where she was exposed to weight stigmas perpetuated by athletic trainers and healthcare providers. Next, she studied for a Master of Public Health degree at Brigham Young University while modeling in the fashion and lifestyle industry. After graduating, she modeled full-time in New York City where she saw the prevalence of weight stigmas widespread outside the medical field. She worked to lessen such stigmas by designing her own collection of size-inclusive dresses. Now as a student of Osteopathic Medicine, she hopes to educate her peers about weight stigma and work to decrease such biases in the rising generation of healthcare professionals.
