Femi Alakija is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Molecular Science and nanotechnology program at Louisiana Tech University, United States. Femi noticed that decades ago, anytime there was an injury concerning the knee or a general bone fracture, what usually caused the pain was a ligament of the knee. If the wound was severe and resulted in a torn ligament, the ligament would need to be replaced with a new piece of the ligament that would be taken from somewhere else in the body. This process sounds complicated, therefore, to overcome this complexity, he fabricated antimicrobial implants that can facilitate bone regeneration and reduce microbial infection. Today, he is relentlessly following his passion for research in bone regeneration and ways to reduce microbial infections.
