Siddharth is a result-oriented scientist and innovative leader with over 10 year’s research experience in academia. He received his doctroate from St. John's University under the guidance of Dr. Sue Ford exploring basic research questions focused on phenotype changes in cell culture models of diabetes. Dr. Sunilkumar is currently employed as a postdoctoral scholar at Penn State College of Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Dennis studying the impact of stress response proteins in the development and progression of diabetes associated pathologies. His research on the influence of stress protein REDD1 on diabetic retinal inflammation was funded by the Children’s Miracle Network Trainee Research Grant (FY2021). Siddharth has established a productive track record evidenced by authorship of multiple manuscripts including 4 first authour publications. In addition to his research Dr. Sunilkumar also mentors graduate and undergraduate students developing a collaborative research environment. His intent is to transition into an independent position that will allow him to work with basic scientists and clinicians in the area of diabetes and the kidney.
