I obtained my Ph.D. in Physiology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, under the supervision of Dr. Maria Jose Campagnole dos Santos. During my Ph.D., I completed a one-year internship in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Bader at the Max-Delbruck Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin, Germany. After completing my Ph.D., I joined the laboratory of Dr. Yumei Feng Earley at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine for my postdoctoral training, where I have worked ever since. During my career, I have studied the mechanisms involved in the central control of blood pressure and blood glucose with a focus in the brain renin-angiotensin system. More recently, I have worked with a chemogenetic approach (Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs, DREADD) and continuous telemetric recording in mice to study the role of Tyrosine Hydroxylase (TH)-positive neurons in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus on blood pressure and blood glucose regulation.
