My work focuses on host-viral interactions and understanding how viruses in the gastrointestinal tract evade and exploit host responses for pathogenesis.
I primarily focus on rotavirus infection, which is the leading cause of life-threatening diarrhea in children causing ~258 million episodes of diarrhea and 128,000 deaths each year worldwide. My research focuses on elucidating the molecular consequences of purinergic signaling in gastrointestinal physiology and rotavirus pathophysiology, with the ultimate goal to provide further insight to develop suitable pediatric anti-diarrheal or anti-viral therapeutics.
