Monica received her bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Skidmore College in May 2016. During her time in undergrad, she was a member of Dr. Sara Lagalwar's Laboratory where she was involved in a research project looking into mitochondrial dysfunction in Purkinje cells of spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) mice. She spent her three undergrad summers at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Dr. Mark Hallett's Human Motor Control Section. Following her undergraduate studies, Monica earned a Master's in Physiology from Georgetown University. She is currently a second-year DO student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is doing research in Dr. Arturo Bravo Nuevo's Laboratory working on the neuroprotection of Myo/Nog cells and the role of oxygen in retinal neuronal cells.
