My name is Vennela Tulluri, and I am currently a master's student at Rowan University. I am currently working at the interface of chemistry and biology to elucidate novel polyamine regulation mechanisms. I started my research career as an intern performing genetic engineering of rice crops. Although limited, my training encouraged me to pursue a research career in the biotechnology industry.
I started as a research executive at Biocon, working on regulatory functions. Here I had the opportunity to work in the upstream fermentation plant department to make immunomycins. Besides, I gained knowledge on cGMP regulations, obtained hands-on experience in fermentation experiments, and followed all the GLP and GMP rules for documentation.
My research experience was the driving force to take a master's position at Rowan. By this time, I had learned different techniques related to industrial practices. I wanted to pursue further research in an interdisciplinary field that combines biochemistry, biotechnology, and molecular biology techniques. Since 2019 I have been a graduate student with Prof. Nemmara at Rowan University. My first year of research taught me to work with bacterial expression systems, purifying recombinant proteins. Despite the wrath of the pandemic, I was undeterred and was focused on completing key experiments. I was fortunate enough to have learned multiple biochemical and cell biology experiments as a master's student.
