Molecular Biologist and Research Scientist at University of Virginia, Department of Cell Biology. I have a long-term interest in G protein coupled receptors and cellular stress, inflammation, and defense of homeostasis, with specific doctorate training at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, RJ, Brazil) and Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA, US). My postdoctoral studies at University of Virginia were concentrated on understanding how lacritin, a prosecretory tear protein, regulates ocular surface homeostasis and prevents dry eye disease. Through a genome wide CRISPR/Cas9 death screen, I identified the newly lacritin homeostasis receptor/co-receptor complex.
