Charles obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biochemistry from Colorado State University. His current research is focused on the protein Tau, a protein involved in Alzheimer's disease and over 30 different neurodegenerative diseases called tauopathies. The mechanism for how tau causes these diseases has yet to be fully elucidated. Tau has recently been discovered to be localized to membraneless organelles inside of cells that form by the mechanism of Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation. His Ph. D has focused on characterization of tau forming these molecular condensates and how pathological mutations change these characteristics.
