Learning to write and publish manuscripts is a critical skill for trainee scientists. One of the most common areas in which trainees have expressed interest to the APS Trainee Advisory Committee is in the challenges presented throughout the manuscript writing and publishing process. This symposia series will take place over three sessions, with the aim to give trainees insight into the publishing process, from the early writing stages, to the review process, and ending with how to best promote your newly published manuscript.
In session #1 we will discuss the best practices in preparing your manuscript during the first talk. In the second half of the session, we will go over the factors that determine how to pick the best journal to submit your manuscript. In session #2 we will explore the manuscript review process, starting with an introduction to how to review a paper. In the second half of the session, we will go over tips and best practices for responding to reviewers comments. In session #3 we will focus on two ways to promote your manuscripts. In the first talk we will discuss graphical abstracts, with some tips on how to effectively distill your findings into one clear figure. In the second part of the session, we will discuss the importance of promoting your manuscript to share your findings with the scientific community.
