Shruti Shankar, MD, PGY-3 Resident Physician in the Internal Medicine Program at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. I grew up in Richmond, Virginia and completed my Bachelor of Science at the University of Virginia. After graduation, I accepted a two-year research position as a post-baccalaureate fellow at the National Eye Institute within the National Institutes of Health where I investigated the function of a novel protein, Retbindin. My goal of becoming a clinician led me to pursue a Medical Doctor degree at University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. I stayed in the area for residency, where I sought the maximally possible exposure to the field of advanced lung disease and lung transplantation. Much of my research is in interstitial lung disease and lung transplantation, but I am extremely intrigued by the advances in bridging to transplant such as ECMO. This year, I will be starting my Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Yale School of Medicine and am excited for the opportunities and training ahead.
