Sara Krzyzaniak, MD (@smkrzyz) is a clinical associate professor of emergency medicine (EM) and serves as the the EM residency program director at Stanford University. Her scholarly work focuses on equity in healthcare, the remediation of struggling residents, and curriculum development and evaluation. Through her role as program director, she is involved in active efforts to recruit/retain a diverse workforce and remediate struggling learners.
The recruitment efforts include development of a holistic review process and engagement with the Stanford Clinical Opportunity for Residency Experience Program. This program aims to support students from underrepresented backgrounds to increase recruitment of diverse trainees into academic medicine. She also is a leader of the Stanford EM Gender Equity Task Force.
She is directly responsible for remediating struggling learners to ensure they are meeting expectations of the residency program for promotion and graduation. She adopts a holistic approach to remediation that considers multiple causative factors as well as incorporates other faculty and peers in the remediation process.
