Los Angeles, California, United States
Hannah Janeway is an attending physician at White Memorial Medical Center, the West Los Angeles VA, and Kaiser Downey Medical Center. They organize in Los Angeles and at the border on issues such as border and jail abolition and removing law enforcement presence in hospitals and other parts of civil society. They also co-founded and co-direct Refugee Health Alliance, a NGO that provides medical care and medical-legal assistance to migrants and other vulnerable populations in Tijuana, Mexico. Their interests focus on screening for and intervening on determinants of health, educating healthcare providers on structural vulnerability, LGBTQIA+ curriculum and development in the pre-hospital and acute care settings, and increasing diversity and underrepresented minorities in medicine. They are particularly passionate about finding ways for healthcare providers to utilize activist strategies and privileged risk taking as a mechanism to promote and support social justice and change.
