Marla Kingkade has worked within the law enforcement and mental health communities for thirty-five years. She currently facilitates the San Diego Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force and the Methamphetamine Strike Force for the Center of Community Research. She facilitated both initiatives since 2018. In addition, Marla works for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office and is responsible for the development and facilitation of De-escalation and Crisis Management Trainings for San Diego County law enforcement.
Marla developed several programs for law enforcement jurisdictions involving mental health, including juvenile diversion programs for the El Cajon Police Department, the La Mesa Police Department and the San Diego Police Department. In addition, Marla implemented the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) for San Diego County law enforcement agencies.
In 1996, Marla implemented the PERT program for the San Diego Police Department. In 1998, Marla incorporated PERT as a 501(3) C organization and the PERT program became county-wide involving several law enforcement jurisdictions, including the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, San Diego Police Department and eleven additional law enforcement agencies. In addition to her work with PERT, Marla was the Public Relations and Community Outreach Officer for the La Mesa Police Department.
Marla is the President of the California Crisis Intervention Training Association (CACITA) and a past member of the Board of Directors for Survivors of Suicide Loss (SOSL).
