Dr. Ashok Roy is a practicing board-certified internal medicine physician who joined Caravan Health as the Chief Medical Officer in August 2020. Dr. Roy comes with over 20 years of experience in population health, healthcare consulting and healthcare administration during his work with healthcare systems, payers, outpatient clinics and governmental/military organizations. His passion is around using data to create patient-specific clinical experiences, leading to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction while decreasing unnecessary utilization and healthcare costs.
After residency, Dr. Roy was involved in establishing the Massachusetts Health Insurance Exchange and setting up subsidy schedules for Medicaid offerings. Later, he worked for Deloitte Consulting on improving patient care workflows and tailoring EHRs to complement these workflows. He also led a multidisciplinary team sanctioned by the U.S. Congress to study best practices in treating soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq with traumatic brain injury and psychological health.
Dr. Roy gained insight in inpatient medicine and managing cultural and organizational changes while working as CMIO and associate CMO at Southern Maryland Hospital as it was being integrated into the MedStar Healthcare System. Most recently, Dr. Roy was the Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Solutions & Analytics at Lumeris. He oversaw analyzing potential value-based opportunities among healthcare systems and designing clinical programs to help address those opportunities. He helped the operations team assist these healthcare systems to implement these programs by adapting to the resources and culture of participating clinics, and making sure that timely, accurate and actionable dashboards were created to measure progress.
Dr. Roy received his medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's- Roosevelt Medical Center in New York City. He also received his MPH from Johns Hopkins University, and earned a MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
