Dr. Whiteside is an emergency medicine physician with an interest in caring for patients with substance use disorders, mental health and injury from the ED. Specifically, she is interested in improving the provision of evidence-based treatment, patient-centered care and transitions of care from the ED. She recently completed a K23 aimed at piloting ED-LINC which is an intervention to improve care for patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) from the ED using principles of Collaborative Care. She recently received NIDA R01 funding for a fully powered RCT of ED-LINC at two EDs in Washington. This work will include an implementation assessment aimed at understanding the best way to implement this type of intervention should it be successful. Other work includes developing and implementing protocols for take-home naloxone and ED-initiated buprenorphine and working with investigators across the country to improve the care of patients with substance use disorders.
