Karmen Hanson, MA is a senior fellow in health policy at the National Conference of State Legislatures. NCSL is a bipartisan research organization that serves state legislators and staff across the country by tracking legislation, providing technical assistance and other services to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures. Karmen has been with NCSL for over 21 years and specializes in tracking and analyzing state health policy in behavioral health, state cannabis programs, pharmaceuticals, cancer and more. Karmen has convened over 100 state policy meetings and testified before dozens of committees. She is also NCSL’s state liaison to the North Dakota Legislative Assembly. Karmen earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and sociology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Arts in sociology from the University of Denver.
