Elaine Gabovitch is the Title V Director of the Division for Children & Youth with Special Health Needs at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. She also serves as an adjunct instructor/family faculty in the LEND program at the UMass Chan Medical School-Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center where she teaches about family and community perspectives on disability. Her past work as the CDC’s Act Early Ambassador to Massachusetts and as the co-founder of the non-profit First Signs focused on the early identification of neurodevelopmental disorders. In recent years, much of her MCH work has centered around the transition to adulthood for young adults with special health needs and disabilities. First and foremost, she is the parent of a young adult son on the autism spectrum who is the inspiration for her work, and this lived experience has led to her professional interests such as the topic of health transition, among others.
