Dr. O’Brien is a Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Large Animal). Dr. O’Brien currently works in a private equine practice in Ireland, Fethard Equine Hospital. After graduating from University College Dublin with a veterinary degree in 2006, Dr. O’Brien completed a surgery internship and a medicine fellowship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Lexington, KY. After completion of a large animal surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison WI, Dr. O’Brien moved to Switzerland to take up an emergency position at the University of Bern in 2011, passed the board exams and then returned to Ireland in 2012, focusing on juvenile orthopedic urogenital and upper respiratory surgery, in addition to the routine emergency caseload at Fethard Equine Hospital.
