Objective: Compare the volume kinetics between two crystalloid fluid bolus rates in anesthetized cats.
Methods: Ten healthy adult cats were used in this prospective, randomized, crossover study with at least a 5 day washout period. Each cat received a 20 ml kg-1 balanced crystalloid fluid, pHyLyteTM, over 10 (G10) or 40 (G40) minutes under anesthesia. Serial measurements of hemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume were performed up to 60 minutes after conclusion of the fluid bolus. Plasma dilution was calculated with the hemoglobin dilution method and fitted to a two-compartment micro-constant kinetic model using non-linear mixed effect models. The estimated parameters are presented as mean ± SD.
