Dr. Orton received his DVM from Washington State University. He completed residency training in small animal surgery at Ohio State University, and is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgery. He completed an NIH research fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a PhD from Colorado State University. He is currently a professor of cardiology and cardiac surgery at Colorado State University. In 2021 he was elected an honorary member of ACVIM-Cardiology.
