Transforming Physical Therapists into Expert Rehabilitation Treatment Specifiers Using the RTSS is a Desirable Challenge

Deficiency in the provision and quality of rehabilitation treatment specification in clinical practice impairs the identification of effective and ineffective elements of treatment. The conceptual framework of the RTSS is a welcome countermeasure with the hypothesized benefits of improved translation of research to practice, improved clinical reasoning, and increased quality and continuity of treatment provision. This symposium will review a 2-stage iterative teaching program that aimed to embed the RTSS into physical therapy practice at a large UK urban trust. The audience will be engaged in discussion to help identify pedagogical considerations to support the implementation of the RTSS as well as measures of its adoption and effect on clinical practice. Participants will be encouraged to identify potential local barriers to the RTSS and be encouraged to identify and design practical solutions.
