Dr. Miller is a Research Scientist/Prosthetist at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and an Associate Professor in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University. She is an ABC-Certified and Illinois licensed prosthetist. She currently provides patient care in the Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinical Center and is the lead prosthetist involved in research on the control and fitting of advanced upper-limb prostheses through the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Center for Bionic Medicine
Dr. Miller graduated summa cum laude from Tulane University in New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering. She moved to Chicago to pursue graduate work in prosthetics and biomedical engineering at Northwestern University. After completing her Masters degree, she attended the Northwestern prosthetics certificate program and began working at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University.
Dr. Miller has multiple publications in the areas of normal human locomotion, lower limb prosthetics and high-level upper limb prosthetic fittings and outcome measures. She has been involved in the submission and execution of grants through the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, NIDRR, and the DoD.
She is a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists and its Midwest Chapter and is a member of the US chapter of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO). She is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the American Society of Biomechanics.
