Kristi Turner, DHS, OTR/L has over 20 years of experience as an occupational therapist and works at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in the research Center for Bionic Medicine (CBM). She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, and her Masters and Doctorate degree in Health Science. Dr. Turner is a contributing faculty member at Northwestern University's Prosthetics-Orthotics Center and an annual invited guest lecture in the Occupational Therapy programs at universities in the Chicagoland and Midwest on limb loss and difference. She has presented on a variety of topics on upper limb loss at both international and national levels and a contributing author to numerous journal articles. Dr. Turner is a member of the Upper Limb Advisory Committee and the Scientific Medical Advisory Committee for the Amputee Coalition, a member on the Outcomes Research Committee for the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, , and a member of the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics. In addition, she is co-chair of the Skills for Life conference, which is a workshop dedicated to individuals living with bilateral upper limb loss or absence and a member of the Handsmart group, an international group of clinicians that focus on providing education to healthcare providers and individuals with upper limb loss and difference.
Kristi specializes in the treatment of upper limb loss, multiple limb loss, and burn injury. Kristi serves as a Shirley Ryan AbilityLab trainer in the area of upper limb loss and burn injury to ensure competency of therapists evaluating and treating this population. She is involved in research, training, and testing patients with upper limb amputations using conventional and experimental prosthetic components and advanced control schemes.
