Physical activity and exercise have been shown to improve the quality and quantity of life of patients with cancer, and therefore, have been increasingly prioritized in cancer care and survivorship. Guidelines published by the American Cancer Society and the American College of Sports Medicine encourage cancer survivors to be physically active, and provide specific recommendations for exercise that mirror those for the healthy. Cancer prehabilitation is a strategy to optimize patients prior to cancer treatments in order to minimize disease-related or treatment-associated declines during and after treatment. In this symposium, prehabilitation research objectives and outcomes will reviewed, including pilot and randomized-controlled trials for patients with breast cancer, gynecologic cancers, lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, models of prehabilitation clinical research will be shared, including program development, implementation of physical function outcome measures, and nutrition intervention strategies will be shared with the audience.
