Improving Geriatric Care in the Emergency Department: Current Evidence and Role of the Physical Therapist

This symposium focuses on the latest evidence supporting the role physical therapists play in improving outcomes for older adults within the emergency department setting. This course will present an overview of the challenges faced in caring for older adults in the emergency departments, guidelines for screening and assessment, and results from two quality improvement projects demonstrating supporting improved patient and financial outcomes. The ciourse will highlight important role of physical therapists as part of the interdisciplinary team as health policy shifts to a value-based care model.  Strategies for creating a business case to justify additional staffing resources leveraging data from the electronic health record will also be discussed.
