This symposium will highlight three recent studies using the NIDILRR and VA TBI Model Systems National Databases, with an overarching theme of “Veterans’ Health after TBI”. Our research spans multiple domains of Service Members and Veteran health, including physical health and cognition (Study 1), suicidality and suicidal behaviors (Study 2), and alcohol use patterns (Study 3). The evidence we will be discussing has implications for Service Members and Veteran resource allocation, care planning, and provision of medical and behavioral health services for Service Members and Veterans.

Learning Objectives:

Discover the comorbid health conditions that are associated with history of military service, combat exposure, and era of military service among persons living with TBI.
Identify sociodemographic factors associated with elevated suicide risk among Service Members and Veterans with a history of TBI.
Describe patterns of alcohol use among Service Members and Veterans after TBI based on injury severity.
Determined whether cognitive performance is associated with history of military service among persons living with TBI.
