Many individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) are also artists in private or in public. Within their art, they deliver feelings, thoughts and ideas about their disease through music, sculpture, paintings or poetry. Artistic work can raise awareness as to how PD has changed behavior and day-to-day life (in both enhancing and debilitating ways) and also how clinicians capture symptoms and early disease indicators. The goal of this art show symposium is to provide a first piece of evidence for an interplay between arts and Parkinson’s in the context of rehabilitation.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to summarize the interrelationship between PD and art.
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify examples of PD symptoms highlighted via art.
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss evidence supporting use of art in clinical/rehabilitative context.
