There is a greater emphasis on implementing multi- and interdisciplinary care models for neurodegenerative disorders; however, critical gaps, challenges, and opportunities remain in the field. This special symposium will discuss the multi-disciplinary integrative models of neurorehabilitation that can be implemented to improve the quality of life of individuals with neurodegenerative disorders taking a whole person approach to care. This session will feature a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team of clinicians and researchers including movement disorders neurologist, physiatrist, physical therapist, and scientist. Together, and using examples from the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders translational rehabilitation program, they will discuss the science and therapeutics of neurorehabilitation as applied to PD. They will explore models, policies, and training needed to create and sustain a pipeline of rehabilitation medicine along the continuum of disease and from the “bench to bedside to beyond” reaching the greater Parkinson's disease community.
