Abstract: VEMPs are considered objective tests of vestibular function, yet visual response detection is subjective and varies across clinicians. Further, visual detection is often contingent on a large response elicited with an intense stimuli and large muscle contraction. One solution to minimize subjectivity is to use objective detection algorithms (e.g., fixed single point, or F_sp). F_sp can objectively detect VEMPs by estimating signal to noise ratio. The purpose of this investigation was to characterize the behavior of F_sp in cVEMPs in a group of young healthy participants. Potential clinical applications will be discussed, such as newborn screening.
