Program Abstract: Four HHMI Inclusive Excellence (IE) grant programs have established faculty communities of practice (CoPs) within and across their unique institutions: Radford University (mid-size public), Towson University (large public comprehensive), Trinity Washington University (small private PBI and HSI), and Virginia Tech (large public research). While each IE program has a different focus, CoPs were essential to each in implementing STEM-inclusive pedagogies and cultures. Each CoP has an intentional shared interest (domain), engagement in common activities (community), and specific practitioners sharing resources and critical conversations pertinent to the domain (practice). Each institution will describe its IE CoP, metrics used to assess effectiveness, and outcomes. Then we will discuss our plans to strengthen existing cross-institutional CoPs and build new ones. Participants will collaboratively engage to learn the elements of a CoP, identify features of successful CoPs, and create an action plan for a proposed CoP on a local or multi-institutional level.
