Understanding the CAA: A Unique Perspective Whether you are new to the air regulations—or you’ve got decades of experience—the sheer vastness of the CAA often “silos” professionals into niche roles. While these roles are essential to air compliance, they also make it difficult to see the big picture. And without this perspective, compliance is more a quandary than a thoughtful process. This session will provide a high-level overview of the CAA that helps attendees understand how the Act was conceived and why compliance can be so complicated. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of the various programs, the pollutants each program regulates, and how the CAA is structured. Our approach to this foundational understanding of the air regs is unique, so even the most seasoned professionals often walk away with a new way to think about CAA compliance. The topics we will cover include: 1. The pollutants regulated under the CAA (and why this is a source of so much confusion). 2. The six major programs that comprise the CAA: National ambient air quality standards (NAAQS), New source performance standards (NSPS), National emission standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP), Acid rain program, Title V permitting program, and Stratospheric ozone protection program. 3. How the pollutants and programs fit together in the CAA
