In 2021, the US EPA telegraphed its intent to increase the pace of the buildout of regulatory structures for the management of per- and polyfluoroalkl substances (PFAS) across all media, most notably with the October 18, 2021 release of the PFAS Strategic Roadmap. Similarly, numerous states are enacting their own plans, with the intent to perform targeted monitoring and establish standards and limitations for the discharge of certain PFAS to the environment. The latest in an annual review of the PFAS regulatory landscape by these speakers, this presentation will provide an up-to-date summary of regulatory developments in the areas of water quality standards, air emissions regulations, and waste management requirements. As in years past, the speakers will not only provide documentation of proposed and finalized requirements and limitations, but provide some analysis of where the consensus is heading
For this presentation, the authors will rely on their subject matter expertise in air quality and in water and waste management, respectively, reflecting the multimedia impacts of the emerging contaminant, and highlighting the need to understand the ways in which regulation of one media can impact another media.
