Radiography remains an essential diagnostic study for both cardiac and pulmonary diseases. This session offers an overview of the radiographic diagnosis of heart disease, heart failure, and important pulmonary differential diagnoses. The location and enlargement patterns of important cardiac structures are demonstrated using clinical cases and by angiography and high-resolution CT imaging to improve the practitioner’s ability to view and interpret a radiograph of the thorax in small animals.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will understand the radiographic views that best highlight cardiac or lung structures for a systematic approach to thoracic radiograph interpretation
Upon completion, participants will be able to objectively quantify cardiac enlargement and monitor changes over time
Upon completion, participants will appreciate how to evaluate left-sided and right-sided heart enlargement as well as great vessel enlargement
Upon completion, participants will recognize pulmonary patterns and how they can help support differential diagnoses
