Bacteria that are highly resistant to antimicrobials can be isolated from cattle that have been treated for BRD, and it seems likely that this resistance may lead to infections that are difficult or impossible to treat. However, cattle with highly resistant bacteria do not always do poorly. This presentation will review what is currently known about the prevalence, causes, and impacts of AMR in bovine respiratory disease.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize which bovine respiratory disease agents have been found to display multi-drug antimicrobial resistance
Recognize mechanisms by which bacteria develop antimicrobial resistance
Describe practices consistent with judicious use of antimicrobials in cattle practice
