General Veterinary Technician Session: Nutrition is being identified as an important factor in health and longevity. There is an increased demand for environmentally conscious ingredient sources, along with more holistic approaches to treating our pet's health conditions. This session will review current research and guidelines for new ingredients, label changes, and the future of probiotics for pets.
Learning Objectives:
What changes are being considered for AAFCO pet food labels
Understand what insects are being considered for pet food and how they provide a viable source of nutrients
Define probiotic and understand the benefits of oral fecal microbial transplant capsules
Be aware of at least 2 potential risks and 2 potential benefits that hemp may present in pet food.
List 4 alternative protein sources that are being researched as future environmentally friendly options for humans and/or animals.
