Associate veterinarian Ann E. Bastian, VMD Blandon, PA, United States
In the past few years, we have been tested in so many ways: • Pandemic - Changed how we interact with others outside our household. • USA events - Made us question the honesty and integrity of people we once admired. • World events - Disbelievers of science have allowed global warming to advance leading to catastrophic events too numerous to count. • Life expectancy - U.S. life expectancy has gone down by 1.5 years • Medical care - Providers are increasingly being evaluated by how many patients they have treated and how much income they have generated NOT by the quality of their care. Where do people of all ages find comfort, especially during stressful times: The animals in their lives! In the U.S. Pet Industry, expenditures went from $90.5 Billion to $123.6 Billion. That is a 35% increase in spending, when during the same time period the GDP of the country grew by 4% ! Human-Animal Bond is an important thread in creating the fabric of a healthy community. Our deep commitment to strengthening that bond is reflected in the excellent work we do. Our communities recognize that commitment. Dr. Mark promises to have you laughing and crying as he shares stories and challenges regarding what we do and say in the spirit of helping animals and the people in the animals' lives. His stories span over 40 years and reflect the bond and its critical importance to sustaining a healthy world. Many of you will have your understanding confirmed of how sacred the work we do is. For those that are struggling to continue because of external or internal stressors, come spend 50 minutes and have that spark that you initially had when you got into helping animals and people reignited!
Learning Objectives:
Recognize if there is a most vulnerable population of individuals at risk when it's time for their pet to cross over the rainbow bridge
We love our pets and consider them a family member. During this session you will learn why: if courts decide that animals are not property, and awards financial penalties for pain and suffering due to intentional or unintentional actions that harm an animal, it is not in the best interest of the animals we love.
Discover why during crisis, whether natural or man-made, it is critically important that a portion of human-power and valuable resources be directed towards helping animals
Learn why we should approach our work with an understanding that it makes a positive difference, and when we practice mindfulness the attendees will understand why we are lucky to do what we do
