Dr. Applegate attended Kansas State University for his veterinary education. Upon graduation, he completed a one-year internship at Animal Medical Center in New York City, before serving for almost six years as an exotic animal clinician at the Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Applegate then accepted a faculty position at North Carolina State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in the Exotic Animal Medicine Service, where he served six years and remains involved as adjunct faculty. While at NCSU, Dr. Applegate had the opportunity to complete ACZM board certification and serve as a founding officer in the Honey Bee Veterinary Consortium. Returning to his roots in New Jersey, Dr. Applegate opened Nautilus Avian and Exotics Veterinary Specialists where he functions as a clinician and medical director.
