Lyme disease is caused by Borreliella burgdorferi and transmitted to mammals via the bite of infected Ixodes ticks. The incidence of Lyme disease in dogs is increasing and the regions endemic for this disease are expanding. This presentation will review recent developments in our understanding of memory immune responses to Lyme disease vaccines. In addition, new information derived from genome sequencing of Lyme isolates recovered from dogs will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Identify common sources of Lyme disease
Describe possible immune system responses to vaccinations
Incorporate new information about genome sequencing in your clinical decision making
