Inflammatory esophageal disease is more common than previously thought. The diagnosis is often difficult unless inflammatory disease is suspected and appropriate diagnostic tests are applied to confirm the diagnosis. This session will cover the clinical aspects, the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory esophageal disease. The most common etiology is gastroesophageal reflux. Complications presented include ulceration, motility disorders and stricture formation.
Learning Objectives:
The participant will learn how to diagnose inflammatory esophageal disease based on clinical presentation and endoscopic techniques.
The participant will learn the role of gastric acid associated esophagitis and the importance of acid neutralization.
The participant will learn that anesthesia with gastric reflux to be a common cause of esophagitis.
The participant will learn the complications of esophageal inflammation including stricture formation.
