This seminar will review the varying cutaneous presentations of this group of skin conditions from crusting dermatoses of Pemphigus foliaceus to the painful adherent crusts of Pastern Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis to patchy to complete hair loss associated with Alopecia Areata. As their presentations may mimic many other skin conditions, a review of the key distinguishing clinical features and diagnostic tests will help to confirm your diagnosis with confidence so that you can provide appropriate therapeutic recommendations including some newer options such as photobiomodulation via fluorescent light energy and oclacitinib.
Learning Objectives:
Identify similarities and difference between crusting bacterial dermatitis and Pemphigus foliaceus
Identify key historical and clinical features of Pastern Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis and be able to differentiate it from infectious causes
Identify and differentiate immune-mediated Alopecia Areata from dermatophytosis and bacterial folliculitis
Understand when to incorporate newer treatment options such as oclacitinib and photobiomodulation via fluorescent light energy in the treatment of equine immune-mediated skin conditions
