General Veterinary Technician Session: Working with large animals in inherently dangerous and preventing injuries in the workplace takes time, education and training. The risks increase significantly when these animals suffer debilitating injuries related to trauma, orthopedic or neurologic disease which impair their ability to stand on their own. Dealing with large recumbent patients also pose risks which can be mitigated in many ways.

Learn the types of equipment available for various species and when they are best applied
Understand patient concerns related to handling down and sling patients
Recognize safety concerns for staff related to handling down and sling patients
