Veterinarian/Owner Joan D Winter,DVM,Inc., Simi Valley, CA, United States
Honey bees, just like all other species under veterinary care, can become ill with numerous pathogens, parasites, and pests. Although currently veterinarians are only required to be involved in bacterial disease management, it is important to familiarize oneself with the other conditions which may be found upon clinical examination of a colony. This talk will highlight the most common conditions a veterinarian may encounter, with a thorough discussion of the veterinarian’s role and potential future roles in honey bee health.
Learning Objectives:
List the common diseases, pests, and parasites of honey bee colonies in the United States
Describe the clinical signs, differentials, and diagnostic tests for each condition
Discuss treatment plans and veterinary involvement for each condition
