Dr. Ramos graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from the University of Hawaii – Manoa in 1991. He received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (1996) and Masters in Preventive Veterinary Medicine (2009) from the University of California – Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. After receiving his DVM degree, Dr. Ramos spent 7 years in large animal mobile practices in both California and Nevada serving equine, beef and dairy clientele. Dr. Ramos joined the USDA - APHIS - Veterinary Services in 2003. He spent 5 years as a field Veterinary Medical Officer and Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician (FADD), first in Tulare, CA and then Sonoma, CA. He assumed the position of Area Epidemiology Officer in Sacramento, CA in 2008. In 2012 he relocated to Carson City, NV where he serves as an Epidemiology Officer for USDA VS District 6. He has livestock and poultry disease surveillance, control, and eradication program responsibilities for Nevada, Utah, Hawaii and the Pacific Territories, and is a Designated Scrapie Epidemiologist.
