Marcia Harmelink, DVM, is an experienced education and learning professional focused on the animal health industry. She founded Rocking H Veterinary Consulting in 2017 on the premise that education, training, and technical writing services could be offered to veterinary industry suppliers, veterinary students, and house officers, to help them succeed.
Dr Harmelink earned her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in 1985, and worked as an associate in private equine, mixed and small animal veterinary practice. She joined Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. in 1991.
Marcia spent her first decade at Hill's working in the field, introducing new products, programs, and services to veterinarians and their healthcare teams. She also had an important role as a trainer for new salespeople and field veterinarians.
Her subsequent years there were spent in various corporate training and professional education roles. She managed sales training in the US, and ultimately drove the training strategy and delivery for the entire company globally. She gained valuable experience developing and delivering classroom training, and trained others to do the same.
Marcia helped to pioneer use of the virtual classroom as a training vehicle, expanding the reach and improving the convenience of training. She again trained others to do the same. She helped develop the first online product training in the entire Colgate corporation, and then later managed development of the 2.0 version, with multiple language translations.
Delivering engaging presentations is a special interest, and Marcia spent many years training others in public speaking. While doing so, she co-authored a complete revision of the Colgate public speaking course. She led development of a complete library of modern, interactive, dynamic presentations about nutritional management of pets with specific disorders, ensuring they were audience-focused and more likely to engage and result in changed behavior.
